Liederlesung with the Deutsche-Arabische Schule
LIEDERLESUNG ماء WASSER מַיִם
“Water has no inner boundaries and is divided into neither peoples nor territories. It has a language, and it is the same everywhere. There is, so to speak, no human being who could exclude themselves from it. It is the model of a self-contained humanity, into which all life flows and which contains everything.”
— Elias Canetti
The Liederlesung is a meeting format where participants with Arab migration backgrounds come together with members of the Jewish community. Music and poetry serve as means of connection and exchange. The aim is to foster ongoing encounters that develop organically, creating synergies in participants’ everyday lives.
What’s happening?
Bring your favorite songs, poems, or texts — your childhood memories, favorite traditions, or customs — anything connected to the theme of WATER, and share them with us all. YEAH!
Want to sing a song but don’t play an instrument?
No problem at all! We’ll have live musicians that evening — one on guitar, one on piano, and another on oud! We just need your sheet music a week in advance (in your preferred key, if possible), and then you can meet briefly with your chosen musician around 7:00 p.m. to run through your song. Who knows, maybe we’ll all end up singing along together! If you sing, you swing! 🎶
If you’d like to learn more about our school and our work, you can find all the information here: www.das-ik.de
We look forward to your songs and poems, your thoughts and memories. We welcome everyone — whether you want to sing along, listen, or simply be there — and we’re grateful for your sharing. Please let us know briefly if you’d like to attend!
