Bild has reported that Hillel cancelled the candle lighting because of Die Linke's election victory. That is not accurate. We are currently following the situation in Neukölln and across Berlin closely and with concern. At a time when antisemitism is becoming ever more visible in public life, we believe it is important to take a clear stand against it. For many years, the Hanukkiah at Neukölln Town Hall has served exactly that purpose: a visible sign of Jewish life in the heart of Neukölln. Whether the candle lighting can take place in Neukölln this year depends on several factors and has not yet been decided.
