Ceremony of Resilience
The Ceremony of Resilience is a unique remembrance event, marking the tragic attack in Halle and Wiedersdorf on Yom Kippur 5780 – October 9, 2019. Jewish and other communities targeted by right-wing violence in Germany come together to redefine remembrance and forge bonds with one another. This event is instrumental in empowering survivors to raise their voices and making space for the Jewish community to contemplate its own contribution against right-wing extremism and antisemitism.
The Ceremony of Resilience enters its sixth year with a new focus. Just as the Festival of Resilience continues to evolve throughout the year, the Ceremony of Resilience is also changing. That’s why this year’s theme is: Change.
We’re asking ourselves two central questions:
What have we created over the past years?
And where do we go from here?
As in previous years, the ceremony will feature a speech and a musical performance. For the first time, however, it will be accompanied by an interactive exhibition. There, we’ll look back on six years of the Festival of Resilience:
What brought us joy? What made us angry? How did we grieve? And where did we find our strength?
You’re invited to experience all of this on October 5, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in Berlin. Immerse yourself in six years of festival history — through moments of joy, anger, grief, and strength.
We also invite you to become part of it: At several stations, you can share what gives you resilience, express your thoughts creatively, engage in conversation with others — or simply take your time to reflect and let the exhibition speak to you.
The Ceremony will take place in both English and German.
