5 years have passed since the antisemitic, racist and misogynist attack in Halle and Wiedersdorf on Yom Kippur 5780, 9 October 2019. Together, at the 5th Ceremony of Resilience, we remembered the murdered Jana L. and Kevin S. and all survivors.
Be it with the shofar, which has become the musical symbol of resilience and remembrance over the last 5 years and which this year was played in the newly written piece "Resilience. Helical Changes" by Camillo Bornstein together with cello, clarinet and grand piano. Be it through singing together with Folkadu or through the speeches of survivors or audio contributions from supporters from the solidarity network of victims of right-wing violence.
The last five years have been characterised by grief, healing and hope, multiple crises and struggles. This is precisely why, said Naomi Henkel Guembel in her keynote speech, it is important not to give up: "We are fighting for a future in which solidarity triumphs over hate."
Or as Rabbi Rebecca Blady said in her opening words: "our task is to build a culture of care" - and that also means continuing to fight in alliances of solidarity and continuing to believe in the power of collective resilience. Despite all doubts.
